Show Notes

In the wake of July Fourth flash flooding in Kerr and Tom Green counties in Texas, people are stepping up to serve their communities and fellow church members. Volunteers are mudding out homes, pulling out ruined furniture, drywall, and insulation before spraying a solution to prevent mold that can quickly set in after water damage.

One of the program managers for this response, Andrew Metcalf, has witnessed God working through volunteers.

“I'm always amazed at how God puts the right volunteer with the right family.” — Andrew Metcalf

Andrew shared a testimony with Kristy of the faithfulness of God, where in a tenuous situation, a mother and daughter survived. God illustrated through it that He is the one that directs our paths. A closed door saved both of their lives.

Our podcast correspondent, Stephen, spoke with Edward in Texas about what he was seeing and how we can be praying for those affected. Edward explained that there is so much loss, and some families will never be the same, but prayer is powerful. Now, the Church can mobilize and provide comfort. God answers prayers, and His Gospel message brings hope.

“It's not about good works of charity. For us, it's about sharing the Gospel and giving God the glory.” — Edward Graham

While on the ground, Stephen talked to a homeowner named Rosa, who shared that she only had seconds to evacuate her home when the waters rose. Rosa recounts an incredible story of how she was able to rescue a neighbor. The Lord provided a kayak for her at the exact right time.

“Texas is strong … And we're gonna make it because you guys showed up.” — Rosa Toler
