Show Notes

On the Ground with Samaritan's Purse host Kristy Graham speaks with Brent Graybeal, director of U.S. recovery and development for Samaritan’s Purse. Brent shares insight into why and how we continue to serve at these rebuild sites following Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Michael.

On the ground is Sam Seaborn, a case worker in Florida for Samaritan’s Purse. She and her husband lost their home – giving them a unique opportunity to relate to those she continues to serve. Listen as she tells her story of how it felt to be in the midst of the storm and how that experience enables her to encourage homeowners who lost everything. Jackie Billett, a case worker in Texas, also speaks into the hardships that a storm brings. But more importantly, Jackie points to the hope that can be found in Jesus Christ.

“We let them know how much God loves them, and is present in their lives. It will see them through any storms that they face, including a damaged home.” – Jackie Billett

In 2017, the Sifuentes family’s home was deemed unlivable due to mold. They had to watch as it was demolished just weeks after Hurricane Harvey. They expressed that by leaning on God, their circumstances have changed for the better. Each day, they see the love of God through the volunteers that come, week after week, to build their new home from the ground up.

Men and women volunteering with North American Ministries come from across borders – acting as the hands and feet of Christ to put the Gospel in action. Listen as Elizabeth Melinder, the volunteer coordinator for Pearland, TX, explains how volunteers bring hope to every neighborhood.

Kay, a seasoned volunteer at the Texas rebuild site, describes the joy she feels when serving—not only while painting cabinets or unloading trailers, but also praying over volunteers and beneficiaries.

The episode wraps with the joy of home dedication. When Samaritan’s Purse gives keys to new homeowners, it is always a powerful moment. With the keys they receive a certificate that says “paid in full.” This points to the free gift Jesus has offered to all people: He paid our sin debt through His death and resurrection.

Thank you for tuning in to hear how God is working through Samaritan’s Purse to bring hope and healing to the devastated areas of Texas and Florida. Through offering physical and spiritual aid, Samaritan’s Purse seeks to spread the Good News of the Gospel to those in need.
