“I don’t know how to explain it, it was relentless, it wouldn’t stop.” —Diane, Homeowner

When Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida just last week, the flooding and record high wind speeds brought destruction in their wake. Homeowners are now left wondering how to put back together the pieces of their lives.

In this episode, On the Ground with Samaritan’s Purse host, Kristy Graham, hears from homeowners, volunteers, and Samaritan’s Purse leadership to bring an update on what responding to a storm looks like.

Kristy first talks to Jason Kimak, Director of North American Ministries, who is currently on the ground in Florida. Jason explains the importance of this initial response and how Samaritan’s Purse was able to prepare early for Hurricane Ian.

One of our correspondents, Melissa, hears from a volunteer who is playing an integral part in bringing emergency supplies to homeowners. Donnie shares why he’s chosen to serve, and how his role driving one of the Disaster Relief Units is an opportunity to share the Gospel. Melissa describes what these first two days of the response look like as she joins the convoy headed to Florida.

Next, Jason elaborates on the ongoing need for volunteers as the cleanup from this storm continues. And Chandler, one of the team leaders in Florida, encourages volunteers during their orientation training. She shares about the need for both physical aid and spiritual comfort for homeowners.

Kristy then hears from a homeowner in Fort Myers, Florida, whose home was completely flooded. Sandra is holding on to her faith, even as she grieves the incredible hardship and loss this storm has caused.

“It’s so devastating to lose everything, but yet Samaritan’s Purse is coming to help me. I didn’t have any help before that, but I know God is good. He’s so good.” —Sandra

Finally, we hear from Jason and Kristy about the importance of prayer in a crisis like this. Please continue praying for our teams of volunteers and for homeowners.
