Kristy Graham, host of On the Ground with Samaritan’s Purse, sits down with Charity Moree, the assistant director of campus relations in human resources, to learn about how the internship program began and all that goes into selecting applicants. Oftentimes, interns are selected because of their specific call to the ministry of Samaritan’s Purse and are placed in positions that will stretch them. Wherever interns are intentionally assigned, their supervisors and teams pour into them and facilitate professional and spiritual growth.
“The program actually started because Franklin [Graham] had experience when he was younger and went with Bob Pierce to different international sites with Samaritan's Purse, and that was kind of a catalyst for him in a time that changed his trajectory and what the Lord was calling him to.” —Charity Moree
Kristy also talked with Laura Lennox, who worked at international headquarters this summer as a GIS and reporting systems intern. During her time at Samaritan’s Purse, Laura was able to build on the knowledge she gained in college and apply it to various assignments in the international projects department. She even got the chance to travel to Iraq to survey beneficiaries, staff, and people in the local community. Through these interviews, Laura realized her passion for storytelling.
“God always has much bigger plans for us than we have for ourselves.” —Laura Lennox
Hundreds apply for the spring, summer, and fall internship terms, which makes it challenging to narrow down. Ultimately, interns are placed exactly where they need to be through much intentional prayer. Charity remarked that the interns exude creativity, joy, and excitement, which continually blesses the ministry.
Our podcast correspondent got the opportunity to talk to more domestic and international interns about what they learned throughout the summer and how the internship program impacted them spiritually.
“The Lord really put on my heart just the desire to make His name known somewhere else in the nations. And this internship was world class in that respect.” —Joshua Ide
Please pray for the summer interns who recently left and have dispersed back out into the world. Pray for the new group of international interns who are currently settling into their roles this fall. And continue to pray for our campus relations team as they are tasked with selecting these interns. If you’d like to keep up to date with more stories on the ground, please visit SamaritansPurse.org.
Each year, young men and women get to learn firsthand what Samaritan's Purse is about as they serve during an internship. Interns are stretched and introduced to new passions as they take on projects across the ministry. Hear directly from interns who served all around the world this summer, and also from Charity Moree, the assistant director of campus relations, who is involved in selecting and prayerfully placing interns.
