In honor of the Fourth of July, Kristy Graham is taking you on the ground to learn more about Operation Heal Our Patriots, a project of Samaritan’s Purse that is designed to strengthen the marriages of military veterans and their spouses. This year is the tenth year of this life-changing program. Each summer, couples travel to Samaritan Lodge Alaska where they have the opportunity for spiritual refreshment, physical renewal, and marriage enrichment.

The episode opens with Kristy’s conversation with Greg and Shawna Duvall. Greg serves as the chaplain manager and shares the transformations he has witnessed in the lives of hundreds of couples. For the past 10 years, sharing the Gospel and impacting military marriages has always been central to Operation Heal Our Patriots. As the project continues to grow, Greg explains that there are new structures and roles in place that allow deeper relationship with the couples after they go home.

“Our commitment is for life. There’s nothing like it, that’s why I love it here. There’s such an emphasis on the Gospel for really fixing your marriage.” —OHOP Chaplain Eric Bandy

The transformational week in Alaska is made possible by Samaritan’s Purse volunteers and staff. Whatever their role, each person serves with a humble attitude and willing heart. Many of the military couples witness Christ through the love of those who serve at Operation Heal Our Patriots.

“I want to let Christ shine through. Whether it’s smiling as we greet them down the boardwalk or cleaning their towels, what small piece of our hands can Christ use to show His love? It’s what God is doing in their hearts through us. We’re a small piece, and we want them to see Christ only in us.” —Staff Member Chris Bean

For most of these couples, Alaska serves as the launching point, but Samaritan’s Purse stays connected with them for life, ministering to them as they face the struggles of daily life. Marriages are strengthened by God’s love and the outpouring of generous service they receive from the staff and volunteers.

The episode wraps with specific prayer requests for the Operation Heal Our Patriots program and alumni. Please continue to pray for the marriages of these men and women that sacrificed for our freedom.
