Show Notes

As North American Ministries teams work tirelessly to respond to Hurricane Helene, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Rapid Response Team Chaplains also come alongside homeowners and share the hope of Jesus. Kristy sat down with Josh Holland, the international director of this team, and talked about what he has witnessed while out serving in the Asheville area. Chaplains bring the message of hope to heartbreaking situations, asking the Holy Spirit to speak through them.

“We try to teach our chaplains, just be fully engaged, fully present, listen, and God will give you supernatural words to say—even though we don't have all the answers.”—Josh Holland

Since Josh is from North Carolina, this hurricane response is especially personal to him. Josh got the chance to hear countless stories while in Asheville, including a woman who lost 11 family members in mudslides. Each day, Josh is witnessing people put their faith in Jesus Christ, and he believes that revival will come out of this calamity.

“It's beautiful. It's heart-wrenching, it's heartbreaking, but it's a beautiful thing to see how God is literally bringing beauty from ashes.”—Josh Holland

Everyone is going through something—we all have our own unique trials. Jesus promised that in this life we will have trouble, but we can cling to Him because He has overcome the world. Josh talks about secondhand trauma and how we should pray during hard times.

“When there's nobody beside us to encourage us and we feel like we need somebody to pray for us, sometimes we have to get alone with God and just encourage ourselves in the Lord, speak God's Word over ourselves.”—Josh Holland

Please pray for the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team Chaplains. Pray that the Holy Spirit would use their ministry of presence and work through them to share the Gospel in these difficult times. Continue to pray for those who have been affected by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. If you’d like to keep up to date with more stories from On the Ground, please visit samaritanspurse.org.
