October Ministry Highlights

This week, Kristy Graham hears from Samaritan’s Purse key leaders to learn more about how we are responding after Hurricane Ida, the Afghanistan crisis, and the Haiti earthquake.

Although the news cycle has since turned over and our attention has been focused in other places—one of the incredible things about God is that He doesn’t forget. He is equipping Samaritan’s Purse to continue working in broken places to help people physically and spiritually. This week, Kristy Graham hears from Samaritan’s Purse key leaders to learn more about how we are responding after Hurricane Ida, the Afghanistan crisis, and the Haiti earthquake.

Show Notes

As the world is constantly changing and we are receiving new updates every hour, Samaritan’s Purse is not only responding to events as they arise, but faithfully staying until the need is met. Kristy Graham hears from three ministry leaders about our work in Louisiana after Hurricane Ida, Virginia to aid Afghan refugees, and Haiti after the earthquake.

To kick off the episode, Kristy speaks with Luther Harrison, the vice president for North American Ministries. Luther shares that Samaritan’s Purse is still serving on the ground in Louisiana at three different sites. The category four hurricane that hit Louisiana on August 26 left the state with unmanageable damage that many families are still trying to process. Over 3,000 families are asking for help and volunteers are greatly needed. Since this disaster, 80 decisions for Christ have been made. Luther shares that even through tragedy, the Lord is moving.

Next, Kristy hears from Melissa Strickland, the director of communications, as she reports on her time in Fort Pickett, Virginia. She shares that Samaritan’s Purse is aiding Afghan evacuees and partnering with the U.S. government to provide critical relief supplies and English as a second language courses. The ministry is privileged to be showing love to men, women, and children who have endured unthinkable trauma.

To give the final update, Kristy spoke with Pierre Julien, the Samaritan’s Purse country director in Haiti. Pierre shared the current challenges Haiti is facing after the deadly earthquake on August 14. Two months later, families are struggling to find shelter and the majority of schools remain closed. Amidst these hardships, Pierre shares that God is working through Samaritan’s Purse to bring clean water and supply tarps and shelter in the southeastern part of Haiti.

The episode closes with Pierre sharing the Gospel, and how God is continually at work in the life of his community. Please continue to pray for our teams on the ground and all those we help in Jesus’ Name.
