Thank you for listening in to another episode of On the Ground with Samaritan’s Purse, hosted by Kristy Graham. In recent days, the world has had their eyes focused on the devastating events taking place in Afghanistan. Samaritan’s Purse is currently partnering with organizations on the ground to sponsor flights to bring people to safety. In this timely episode, Kristy speaks with Ken Isaacs, the Vice President of Programs and Government Relations, as he gives updates on how Samaritan’s Purse is helping men, women, and children out of this horrific situation.

Isaacs shares that Samaritan’s Purse is proactively assessing the resources needed for their difficult journey ahead. The Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Assistance Response Team is determining how to best provide care for those who have fled with nothing—anticipating needs like diapers, hygiene products, and help for the women and children that are experiencing unthinkable trauma.

“They’re going to have a tough road,” Isaacs says. “We want to help them and show them the love of Jesus where they are and regardless of what they believe.”

Ken shares with Kristy that we are already witnessing stories of hope. On Saturday, August 21, Samaritan’s Purse sponsored a flight out of Afghanistan—helping to rescue nearly 700 people.

“It’s a difficult time and it’s always a bit of a challenge to say I see God working in this time when it’s so chaotic, but yet I do,” Isaacs added.

The episode continues as Kristy shares Franklin Graham’s call to prayer from August 22, in which he asks listeners around the world to pray for the people of Afghanistan. We encourage you to join Franklin as he prays for Afghanistan families, pastors, and for those looking to escape. Listen as he prays for wisdom for President Biden and U.S. political leaders.

The episode wraps with Kristy’s thoughts and prayers surrounding the devastating crisis. She has been clinging to Psalm 34:4-7 which says, “I sought the Lord, and he answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.”

Through chaos and tragedy, our hope remains in God and we are thankful for your partnership as we pray for the tragedy in Afghanistan. Please continue to pray for those in harm’s way, U.S. leaders and military, and Samaritan’s Purse as we bring hope in Jesus’ Name.
