In the News – Coronavirus and Fear

News about the Coronavirus continues to change moment by moment – invoking fear in the hearts of many. In this episode, Kristy Graham uses God’s word to strengthen and embolden those who are anxious. Kristy invites John Freyler, the Samaritan’s Purse regional member care manager for Latin America and the Middle East, to share what God says about fear.

In 2014, John was a part of the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) that responded to the deadliest Ebola outbreak in Liberia. He chose to deploy to the epicenter of the outbreak—choosing faith over fear. Now John is a chaplain with our member care department, encouraging the staff members of Samaritan’s Purse to thrive spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.

“All these trials and tribulations we go through is so we can trust God. If we trust Him, He is faithful.” – John Freyler

John speaks to those who may be fearful – recounting his story of trusting God to carry him through. He recalls that his biggest comfort was praying and calling out to God – casting all his cares on Him. John said that God gave him the grace to walk through his trials.

Kristy responds with the reminder that there is no condemnation for fear. Even mighty warriors, she says, still have contagious fear. She and John discuss how to be a light in this dark time and spread the fear of the Lord. John’s devotional message revolves around the story of Jehoshaphat, found in 2 Chronicles. John reiterates peace with God, and the importance of being good listeners.

“The creator God is not surprised by what’s happening right now. He might not change your circumstances, but He can change your heart.” – Kristy Graham

Continue to pray for medical professionals, those who are sick, the coronavirus taskforce, and those who are afraid.
