Ep. 7: 2019 Year in Review

Samaritan’s Purse continues to alleviate suffering and share the hope of Jesus Christ with families all around the world through various initiatives and programming. Kristy digs deeper into how God opened doors for Samaritan’s Purse to change lives this year.

Listen to Justin Daggett, a plastic and reconstructive post-resident surgeon at Kijabe Hospital in Kenya, as he shares how this year has taught him to truly depend on God. Hear his conversation with Kristy on how God has transformed the hearts and minds of communities who once killed or ostracized babies born with a cleft lip or palate. Now, mothers have become pillars to speak to the worth and value that these children have in the eyes of God.

In Myanmar, God is also using the cleft lip and palate program to change hearts and lives for His glory. Listen as Paul McKnight, country director in Myanmar, shares with Kristy a story of how God used Samaritan’s Purse to change the way a grandmother saw her grandson born with a cleft lip—creating much-needed reconciliation in their family.

As thousands of Syrian refugees remain displaced from their homes, Matt Nowery shares how Samaritan’s Purse has provided spiritual and physical relief in northern Iraq—distributing emergency shelter material, water filters, and winter clothing to displaced families. Matt also shares how God has opened doors for Samaritan’s Purse to reach unreached people groups in Iraq through various reconstruction, education and livelihood programs—leading many Iraqis to new hope in Jesus Christ.

“What ISIS has intended; God has turned around this evil and darkness and brought light and truth and his love forth.” – Matt Nowery

In September of this year, Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas as a Category 5 storm—creating widespread catastrophe and displacing thousands of families. Samaritan’s Purse remains on the ground in the Bahamas, working alongside local churches to provide long-term relief to affected families.

Next, Kristy speaks with Aldrico Dee, who is on the ground halfway around the world in the Philippines. Aldrico praises God for the ways he has allowed their country office to share the hope of Jesus Christ with people in the far corners of the Philippines.

The episode wraps in Ethiopia—one of the newest Samaritan’s Purse country offices. Listen as their country director, Melanie Moshkowski, shares about the unity and favor that God has granted their team. Melanie shares that while God works supernaturally and miraculously, she has been inspired this year by the ways He has chosen to work through willing individuals to advance his Kingdom.
